What is Counselling?
Counselling is talking therapy based on a relationship of trust where counsellor contract with you, making an agreement on time, place, number of sessions there will be, and the cost. Counselling is not about giving advice or telling you what to do or not. It is about guiding and supporting you through your process of gaining greater understanding and awareness of the issues you may be experiencing. Counselling offers a safe space and an opportunity for you to talk confidentially about your problems with someone who can really hear you. The therapeutic atmosphere of warmth, genuiness, empathy, non-judgment and congruence allows you to build trust in yourself and others, to develop emotional resilience and strenght, and explore your true feelings. My role, as a counsellor, is to enable you to explore many aspects of your life and feelings, by talking openly and freely, to give you that opportunity to express difficult feelings such as anger, resentment, guilt and fear in a confidential environment. I would encourage you to examine parts of your life that you may have found difficult or impossible to face before. We may explore some of your early childhood experiences in order to throw some light on why you react and respond in certain ways in given situation.
